Fiona Mathews is professor of Environmental Biology at the University of Sussex. She is the founding chair of Mammal Conservation Europe and previously chair of the UK's Mammal Society. She led the official review of the status of Britain's wild mammals. She loves all wildlife, but is particularly fond of bats!
Tim Kendall is professor of English Literature at the University of Exeter. He has been an obsessive mammal-spotter all his life, and also teaches poetry to ill-fated undergraduates. He is currently editing 'Poetry of the Second World War', which is forthcoming in 2024 with Oxford University Press.
Tim and Fiona met as undergraduates and have been together ever since. They live in East Devon with their three children and a random selection of rescued animals.
The idea of writing a book together only occurred to them recently.
We leave it to you to decide whether it was a good plan.
